Every year on the Holocaust Memorial Day celebrations of the March of the Living are held in the city of Oswiecim, better known under its German name Auschwitz. Jewish youths from all over the world participate in the events. The main goal of the Marches is to teach a lesson in history and to celebrate youth and life which ultimately won over Holocaust. March of the Living begins by the gate of the former Auschwitz camp, with its "Arbeit macht frei" inscription. Participants walk 3 kilometres to the former Auschwitz II-Birkenau where mourning ceremonies are held. As a part of the commemorations, hundreds of names of children killed in the concentration camp are read out loud.
