In 2005, Reverend Sylwester Zawadzki began the construction of the world's tallest Jesus Christ monument in the small town of Swiebodzin. The statue is to measure 33 meters in height, making it 3 meters taller than the famous Rio de Janeiro Cristo Redentor.
The reverend himself oversees the construction work. He has also gathered the construction crew himself.
At least on two occasions, the authorities in charge of the construction industry stepped in to stop the construction. The authorities had reservations pertaining to the manner of construction of the already competed elements of the monument. Eventually, amendments were introduced and the idea to cover the statue with concrete dropped in favour of metal sheet coating. The completion of the monument of Merciful Lord Jesus is planned for mid-2010.
